Massive fire on roof of Rotterdam's largest business complex
A large fire broke out on the roof of the Groot Handelsgebouw in Rotterdam on Wednesday morning. Firefighters managed to extinguish it in a couple of hours. They are currently examining the different levels of the building to assess the damage. The expectation is that employees will be able to go to work as usual this morning, ANP reports.
The fire started around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, on the roof of the nine-story building. According to the fire department, no one was present in the building when the fire started and as far as is known, no one was injured.
Patio furniture on the roof caught fie and the fire then spread trough the air ducts, a spokesperson for the fire department said. He called it a very large fire.
The Groot Handelsebouw is located right next to Rotterdam Central Station. It is the largest business complex in the Netherlands with 180 tenants renting space.
