Record number of viewers got up early to watch Dafne Schippers run
About 780 thousand people got up in the early hours of Sunday morning to see Dafne Schippers make it to 5th place in the 100 meters at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, according to NPO's viewer figures. This was the first time ever that so many people in the Netherlands were waching television at around 3:30 a.m., NOS reports.
Incidentally, even more Dutch watched Schippers run the semifinal shortly after 2:00 a.m., but at 810 thousand viewers, no records were broken for that time slot.
The most watched moment for Sunday was Dorian van Rysselberghe celebrating his Olympic windsurfing championship at 9:50 p.m. - a massive 2.475 million people tuned in to watch.
