Dutch mother remanded into custody after ISIS escape
Laura H., the 20-year-old mother arrested on Schiphol on Monday after claiming to escape from ISIS with her two kids, will remain in custody for another two weeks, the court in Rotterdam decided on Thursday.
According to Dutch newspaper AD, H. is now in custody in a special terrorism wing in a penitentiary institution. H. was arrested immediately after landing at Schiphol Airport on Monday. The Public Prosecutor suspects her of participation in a terrorist organization between September 2015 and July this year.
Her two children, who returned to the Netherlands with her, were placed with a foster family. The young Dutch woman claims that her husband tricked her into going to Syria. She continually tried to escape and finally managed to do so with the help of Kurdish fighters, she said when suddenly appearing on Kurdish television in mid-July.
A Kurdish fighter later said that she told them to leave her wounded husband in ISIS territory during the escape. Two weeks after her escape, H. made contact with the Dutch consulate in the Iraqi city of Erbil and asked for help returning to the Netherlands.
