Rail work stops trains from Amsterdam to Schiphol
No trains are traveling between Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport today due to rail works on the track between Amsterdam Sloterdijk and the airport. ProRail is also working on other routes between the Dutch capital and the airport, which means that all train passengers traveling between the two locations today, will have to do so by bus, NOS reports.
ProRail is working all week on renovating and expanding the tracks between Amsterdam and Schiphol. The rail works are expected to be done on August 9th, with regular rail traffic picking up again on Wednesday, August 10th. Until then there are no trains between Schiphol and Diemen Zuid and Schiphol and Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena, except for today when there is no trains between the airport and Amsterdam at all. Some other routes are also running with fewer trains than usual.
The disruption of the train services comes on top off inconvenience to motorists by extra security measures that were implemented on Saturday. For days there have been long traffic jams on motorways leading to the airport due to extra traffic checks because of a terrorist threat.
Exactly what the threat entails is unknown, but cars are being searched on a random basis. On Monday it was announced that these checks will remain in place for an extended period.
