Union: Tata Steel/ThyssenKrup merge to cost 4,000 jobs
A massive 4 thousand jobs could be lost should Tata Steel merge with German rival ThyssenKrup, union FNV said to RTV Noord-Holland.
Tata Steel revealed on Friday that the company is currently talking about a possible merge with several peers in Europe, including Germany's ThyssenKrupp. FNV is very concerned about what such a collaboration would mean for Tata Steel employees.
A merge would mean that departments like purchasing and sales would also merge. That means that many office jobs will disappear. "We have 5,000 production people and 4,000 people who work in offices. So it will cost up to 4,000 jobs." according to the union.
