Two arrested for Almere bus vandalism

The police arrested two men in Almere on suspicion of vandalism on Connexxion buses on two separate occasions. The public transporter has been the target of a series of vandalism incidents in Almere for some time. Both men, aged 18 and 24 years old, were arrested in the city on Friday. The 18-year-old is suspected of breaking a Connexxion service bus' window at around 9:00 p.m. on May 24. According to the police, he did so after Connexxion employees fined him and put him off a bus for traveling without a ticket. He was later seen returning, breaking the bus window with a stone and then fleeing on foot. The suspect is in custody and will be arraigned later on Monday. The other suspect was arrested for damaging a service bus during the early hours of Monday, May 16th. According to the police, he insulted a Connexxion employee and ran off. He was later seen putting bicycles on the bus lane and fled again when spotting a Connexxion employee. During his flight he threw a stone at the side of a service bus, hitting and damaging it. The suspect was released after questioning and will have to appear in court. The public transporter also dealt with several other cases of vandalism in the city over the past weeks. Bus services were stopped in Kruidenwijk for a short time after numerous buses were pelted with stones for three consecutive days. Two suspects were arrested. On June 8th two masked men robbed a bus in the city. Last week Connexxion drivers took part in a strike after an angry customer smashed a bus' window, injuring another customer, ANP reports.
