No motive known: Arrest in newspaper delivery woman’s fatal stabbing
A 29-year-old man from Schiedam was arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a newspaper delivery woman in Rotterdam last month. He will be arraigned on Monday. The Rotterdam police are still trying to figure out the motive behind the stabbing, police chief Frank Paauw said to ANP in reaction to the arrest.
"I realize that the case is still far from over", the police chief said on Sunday. "Investigation into the background of the suspect, his possible involvement and questioning will continue in the coming days and perhaps week unabated."
The victim, 51-year-old Anita van Dijk, was stabbed while delivering newspapers on Pasteursingel in Rotterdam-West on May 13th. She died in hospital a week later, without regaining consciousness.
The police can not release any information on the suspect's identity or how he was tracked down. He is currently in restrictive custody, which means he is only allowed contact with his lawyer. The Public Prosecutor will ask the magistrate on Monday to remand the suspect into custody for another 14 days.
