Local residents shocked by fatal Amsterdam shooting
Resident of the Kikkenstein apartment building in Amsterdam Zuidoost are shocked by the shooting that left one man dead in their building on Monday morning.
"It's very intense, this happening where you live. But this says nothing about Bijlmer, it also happens in West and Oost and Zuid", one resident told Het Parool. Another resident is more cynical, especially since this is the second shooting in a small area in a short period of time. Two weeks ago Carlos Bonevacia was gunned down and killed in nearby apartment building Kruitberg. According to this second resident, the police aren't doing anything to stop these shootings. "They want us to kill each other off." he said.
According to the newspaper, it looks like the as yet unidentified victim tried to get away from the gunmen. Blood traces lead from the entrance of the building to the corridor where the man's body was found. Emergency services tried to resuscitate him, but to no avail. He was declared dead at the scene.
Witnesses told AT5 that they heard 5 or six shots fired and that the victim appeared to be an Arabic man between the ages of 25 and 30 years.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear. The police are investigating.
