About 800,000 tulips cover Amsterdam for annual fest
The second annual Tulp Festival kicked off on Friday in Amsterdam. Tulpen, or "tulips," are a famous symbol of the Netherlands, and they will blanket the capital city throughout the month of April.
One tulip will be planted for every person officially living in Amsterdam, which this year totals 800 thousand tulips, the festival stated. The flowers are entirely within the city’s ring road, but spread out from the Verhalenkamer Community Center in Amsterdam Noord to the RAI convention center in the south, and from the Museumplein to the Grand Cafe Frankendael in Amsterdam Oost.
“Amsterdam is traditionally connected to the legendary tulip. However, the bulb seems to have vanished from the streets,” the festival stated. They have planted tulips in 31 different locations to celebrate the month.
