Top restaurant De Librije says “no” to Dubai without alcohol license

The owners of top Dutch restaurant De Librije decided against opening a branch in Dubai because the restaurant could not get an alcohol license. "If we are not allowed to serve wine, that's it for us", owner Therese Boer said to newspaper De Stentor. Boer and her husband Jonnie announced intentions to open a restaurant in Dubai in December, aiming for an opening date in this spring. At that stage they were busy applying for an alcohol license. But according to Boer, the Dubai government now decided they will not be issuing any alcohol licenses for the next three years. De Librije is one of two 3 star restaurants in the Netherlands. It was also number one on magazine Lekker's top 500 restaurants in the country.
