Friends and relatives pay their final respects to chef Jonnie Boer in Zwolle
Friends and family paid their final respects to the deceased chef, Jonnie Boer, on Friday morning in Zwolle. The procession left from his three-star restaurant, De Librije, to his final resting place. This farewell will be in private.
The coffin containing Boer's body was brightly painted by the relatives. It was carried from the restaurant to a motorcycle and placed on the sidecar. Dozens of people on motorcycles, including the “pickles king” Oos Kesbeke, accompanied the procession as escorts. Musician Rene Froger and his wife Natasja, who were close friends with Boer, were also present.
Hundreds of guests had already said goodbye to Boer on Thursday. Boer passed away suddenly last week in Bonaire due to a pulmonary embolism.
During Thursday's ceremony, guests walked past the coffin through the restaurant. The last people to see the coffin were Boer’s wife, Therese, and their children, Jimmie and Isabelle. Many people sent bouquets and flowers, including King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima.
De Librije has had three Michelin stars since 2004. It is currently the only Dutch restaurant with such a high classification.
