Suspect killed in new police-involved shooting

The police gunned down a man after he attacked them with a knife in the Noord-Holland town of De Kwakel on Thursday morning. He died at the scene. Officers responded to a house on Noordammerweg around 5:00 a.m. after receiving a report of a fight. At the scene they found the man on the street with a knife. He stormed the police waving the knife and one officer felt it necessary to shoot. The bullet hit the suspect, seriously injuring him. Officers tried resuscitating him, but to no avail. He died on the spot. As is standard practice in all incidents where the police fire their guns, the Rijksrecherche will investigate what happened. The Rijksrecherche is the department that handles internal police investigations.
