Severed head case leads to neighborhood intervention
Amstelveenseweg in Amsterdam is getting a bit of a makeover after the head of 23 year old Nabil Amzieb was discovered there last week. The municipality hopes that this will help "recover the sense of social security in the street", a spokesperson said to the Telegraaf.
On Thursday night residents can take part in an inspection and point out what needs to be addressed. "We're going to walk around with the residents along the block to look for graffiti, broken street lights, dark spots, dirty roads and other things that make for a bad atmosphere", the spokesperson said.
On the sidewalk in front of the now-closed Fayrouz Lounge, where the head was found, there is now a sea of flowers and candles. A photo of Amzieb was hung on the boarded up shisha lounge. Neighbor John Bruijnes is annoyed with the "monument". "This was a criminal. Not someone we should honor." he said to the newspaper. The municipality will remove the flowers after this week.
The police received 20 tips regarding the man who left Amzieb's severed head on the sidewalk, after showing surveillance camera footage of the man on Tuesday.
