Fog blankets the northern Netherlands
Fog will cover much of the north, central and eastern Netherlands through the morning rush hour and into the early afternoon, Dutch meteorological agency KNMI cautioned on Friday. The weather experts issued a code yellow warning for limited visibility in Noord Holland, Flevoland, Friesland, Drenthe, Overijssel and Utrecht.
Those on the roadways and bike paths across the country were told to be very careful as visibility could fall to less than 200 meters. In Amsterdam Centrum and Oost the fog was denser than expected, with buildings hard to make out when standing just across a canal or a street.
An alert was also issued for heavy traffic by travel association ANWB. However, as of 9:30 a.m. most of the highways across the Netherlands were clear, the ANWB reported.
The warning is scheduled to end at 1 p.m. The sun is expected to shine through the clouds for much of the country during the afternoon, bringing temperatures up to 10 degrees.
