Mayor: All of Amsterdam “shocked” by severed head find
The whole Amsterdam is "shocked" by the discovery of a severed head on Amstelveenseweg on Wednesday morning, Mayor Eberhard van der Laan said in a short statement before the start of the general council meeting on Wednesday. Given the gruesome discovery, the mayor decided to immediately close shisha lounge Fayrouz, in front of which the head was found, Het Parool reports.
"We were all confronted with a very grim discovery", Van der Laan said. "This made a big impression on everyone, it is a shock to public order."
The head was discovered around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The victim was identified as 23 year old Nabil Amzieb. His decapitated body was found in a burning Volkswagen Caddy on Mijehof Tuesday morning.
Fayrouz is known to be a hangout for criminals linked to the ongoing gang war in Amsterdam. The police revealed that Amzieb had a criminal record. According to newspaper AD, he was about to testify against known criminal Beaouf A.
