Video: Armed men rob Amsterdam grocery store
The police released video footage of two armed men robbing an Albert Heijn store on Pieter Calandlaan in Amsterdam Osdorp on January 13th. They hope that information from the public may help lead to an arrest.
The robbery happened just before 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 13th. The two men, one armed with a pistol the other with an automatic weapon, entered the store, one firing a shot.
The video shows employees and customers falling to the ground. One suspect goes tot he cigarette counter and starts filling a bag with cartons of cigarettes. The other pulls a cashier out of her hiding place, threatens her and forces her to open one cash register after another.
The suspects got away with cigarettes and cash. They left on a scooter they came with, which was parked in the parking garage on Willem Hesselaarstraat.
Both suspects wore black raincoats with reflective stripes and hoods. One wore a dark colored cap, the other a white or light colored one. The first offender has dark skin and is about 1.85 - 1.95 meters tall. He was wearing a black balaclava, a black jacket and brown boots. The second offender also has dark skin and is much smaller than the other perpetrator. He wore Nike sneakers. Witnesses stated that they spoke Dutch with a Moroccan accent.
The police are looking for witnesses, especially anyone who saw the men on their scooter before or after the robbery. Officers would also like to talk to anyone who was offered or bought suspicious cigarettes after Wednesday, January 13th.
