Netherlands €7 billion gold reserve could leave Amsterdam vault

The Dutch Central Bank DNB is considering moving its vault o a different location. The vault contains 189 tons of gold and an unknown amount of cash, news wire ANP reports. The vault is situated in the DNB headquarters on Frederiksplein in Amsterdam. It's been there since the sixties. But now that the building is being renovated, DNB is investigating whether it would not be better to keep the vault somewhere else. The presence of the vault sets high security standards, for both employees and visitors. Regular cash transport to and from the building in Amsterdam center is also very complicated. A spokesperson for the bank said that moving the money and gold can help make the DNB office and organization more open and transparent. He added that the move is still only a possibility. "It's an exploration, not a decision", he said to ANP. Whether or not the vault will be moved should become clear during the course of the year. The other DNB activities will remain on Frederiksplein.
