Arrest made in fatal New Year’s stabbing

A 26 year old man was arrested on Thursday morning in connection with a stabbing in Zutphen on New Year's Eve in which 23 year old Joel Alvarez from Deventer was killed. According to the police, the man turned himself in. One witness told the police that the victim had a fight with two other men on December 31st. The police immediately launched a large scale investigation, which included a trace evidence investigation, questioning witnesses and calling for more information on a broadcast of Bureau GLD. The police are continuing to search for the identity of the second suspect in this stabbing. The man arrested on Thursday is in custody for questioning. His involvement in the stabbing is being investigated.
