Sexual violence victims in Amsterdam to get more social support
The municipality of Amsterdam launched a telephone hotline for victims of sexual violence which will guide victims towards medical, forensic and psychological assistance as they need it. According to the municipality, there is a growing need for assistance for victims, AT5 reports.
The call center, caled Sexual Violence Center, is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the toll free number 0800-0188. Victims of sexual violence can call the center for advice on where to go for help, even before they reported the crime to the police.
A report by the public health service GGD shows that an average of 80 victims of recent sexual assault undergo a trace evidence investigation at the police every year. A large number of those victims was sexually abused before.
