Firefighters assaulted with fireworks during multiple emergency calls

Firefighters and other emergency responders were pelted with fireworks in several places in Rotterdam, Amersfoort, Tilburg and Oss during the course of their duties on New Year's eve. In Amersfoort a group of young people through fireworks at firefighters while they were trying to extinguish a car fire on De Ganskuijl around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, RTV Utrecht reports. The police were called in to keep the young people away so that the firefighters could do their job. It is unclear whether anyone was arrested. The cause of the car fire is still under investigation. The car burnt out completely. In Rotterdam miscreants threw fireworks and emergency services in several places, AD reports. On the Goudse Rijweg one police officer sustained hearing damage after being hit by a firework. Aid workers were pelted with fireworks on Riederlaan in Rotterdam Zuid and the riot police had to be deployed. A number of arrests were made. A firework bomb in the Zalm in Ridderkerk broke windows, damaged cars and and injured at least one person. In Tilburg and Oss firefighters were also pelted with fireworks while putting out fires, according to Elsevier.
