Large Rotterdam fire leaves one hurt; area evacuated

One person was injured and about 17 people evacuated from their homes when a large fire broke out in an apartment building on Admiraliteitskade in Rotterdam early on Thursday morning. According to the local safety office Rijnmondveilig, the injured person sustained minor burns. He was treated in an ambulance at the scene. Another person was treated for smoke inhalation. The fire broke out around 5:15 a.m. in an uninhabited apartment in a four story building. According to the safety office, the building was severely damaged, with the upper three floors completely burnt out. The fire department responded with five fire engines and two fire trucks to fight the fire at the front, top and back of the building. Around 8:15 the safety office announced that the fire was under control. Evacuated residents were give shelter in a RET bus and a nearby hotel.
