Pig farmer barely escapes machine gun attack

A pig farmer in Boekel narrowly escaped a machine gun attack in August. The police are still looking for the perpetrator. Omroep Brabant program Bureau Brabant shed more light on the case on Monday. The attack happened on Saturday, August 15th. The farmer was working in a barn on the industrial estate on Molenakker before heading home. As he drove his car towards the gate, he saw a red scooter he also noticed earlier in the day. The young man standing next to the scooter approached the farmer. "He asked if I had a cable for his scooter. I did not, but I was willing to help him", the farmer said on Bureau Brabant. After the farmer walked to the scooter with the man, the man pulled out a machine gun and aimed at the farmer. When he tried to fire, nothing happened. "I hid behind my car. When I saw my chance, I jumped over a ditch and ran into a cornfield. I called the police when I heard the shooter drive away on his scooter." The police responded, but the gunman was nowhere to be found. Surveillance cameras further up the road did catch him on tape. The police shared the surveillance footage on their website and on Bureau Brabant, hoping that a tip from the public will lead to an arrest. A composite sketch was also created.
