Football fan riot in Amsterdam's Dam Sq., 14 arrests

Fourteen people were arrested in the run-up to the Ajax vs Fenerbache match in the Amsterdam Arena on Thursday. According to the police, these suspects made themselves guilty of public violence, insult, throwing fireworks and selling counterfeit tickets, among other things. The police stepped in as mediator in a fight on Dam square around 3:00 p.m. Officers arrested one man after it became clear that he was carrying fireworks. At this point about a dozen bystanders turned on the police, pelting them with stones, bottles, patio chairs and fireworks. The officers managed to get the situation under control and arrested four men. A fifth suspect was later arrested near the Arena. Seven people were arrested at Amsterdam ArenA for selling fake tickets, throwing fireworks and disturbing public order. Another man was arrested at Amsterdam Central Station after the police found a pair of brass knuckles on him. A 25 year old Amsterdam resident was arrested because he is wanted in connection with acts of violence which took place on De Toekomst prior the Ajax-PSV match.
