The season’s first snowfall dusts Limburg
The Netherlands' first snowfall of the season dusted Limburg on Wednesday morning. The beautiful white flakes could be spotted in several places in Limburg.
According to RTL weatherman William Huizinga, it is a bit early in the year for snow, but not yet a record. Last year the first snowfall only happened on December 2nd.
The early snowfall can be attributed to the height differences in Limburg. "Because the hilly area is 300 meters higher, it is just cold enough for wet snow. The temperature drop is 0.6 degrees per 100 meters." Huizinga said.
The average daily temperatures are currently also much lower than what is usual for this time of year. The temperatures are normally between 14 and 15 degrees. But in the east it is around 5 degrees.
