Forensics and Social Media lead to 8th arrest in Tilburg murder
A police tactical team raided the home of a 19-year-old Spijkenisse man suspected of involvement in a vicious home invasion that led to the death of a 48-year-old Tilburg resident. The arrest for the September 15 crime took place on Monday morning.
Dutch police credit an outreach on social media, forensic investigators at the crime scene, and neighborhood policing with piecing together a clearer picture of what happened that night. The work led to two previous arrests last week, including a 20-year-old man from Spijkenisse who was cuffed while in his cell at a psychiatric prison.
He was on leave from the facility where he is locked up for violent crimes at the time of the murder.
Another Dutch man, aged 19, is still in custody. Along with the previously convicted prisoner, the two were ordered held by a magistrate as the investigation continues.
Eight people in told were arrested, including four other Tilburg residents, aged 26, 38, 47 and 53, who were at the home at the time of the murder were held, along with another 31-year-old Tilburg man. They were all released on September 17.
