More than €50,000 embezzled from football supporter club

More than 50 thousand euros was embezzled from football club Willem II's official supporter club by the former treasurer. This is according to research done by Brabants Dagblad. According to the newspaper, the supporter club's former treasurer, who recently passed away at the age of 67, embezzled the money away over several years, using a number of measures including forged bank statements. The supporter club's board has pressed charges and the family of the deceased treasurer has been informed. Supporter club chairman Jan van den Dries confirmed the embezzlement to the newspaper. "I will give a full explanation at the general members meeting on Monday. But I do want to stress that the money collected through various actions for a statue of Jan van Roessel, is still their. It is in a different account." Willem II CEO Berry van Gool stressed that the supporter club is separate from the football club. "But we are suffering with them a bit. This if very annoying for them financially as well as a personal tragedy."
