Kickboxer held for fatal barroom brawl; Mistaken identity, says witness
The police have arrested a 39 year old man from Harlingen in connection with a barroom fight that resulted in the death of a 58 year old man during the early hours of Friday morning. A witness of the fight says that the victim was not the man's intended target.
The fight started around 03:30 a.m. on Friday in a crowded bar on Grote Bredeplaats in Harlingen. According to the Telegraaf, the suspect is a kick boxer who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The victim, Piet Lichtendahl from Kimswerd in Sudwest Friesland, got a blow to the head, slipped into a coma and passed away on Friday night.
"The man who threw the punch thought he had a bone to pick with the victim. But that apparently was a misunderstanding, he had an unclear problem with someone else", a witness, who preferred to remain anonymous, told the newspaper. "The victim did not see it coming." The 58 year old man was hit once and fell of his barstool. "He fell backwards and unfortunately landed on his head."
