Sketch revealed in unsolved rape of elderly woman
The police have released a composite sketch of the man wanted in connection with the violent rape and assault of an elderly lady in Amsterdam late last month.
The attack happened around 7:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31st. The 75 year old woman was walking her dogs on Helmersplantsoen when she was suddenly pulled into an underpass - the former main entrance to the Wilhelmina Hospital - by a man. The man asked her for money. When she said she did not have any on her, the man violently raped and assaulted her, leaving her with injuries on her head and back.
After the rape, the man stole the gold jewelry from around her neck and hands. He released the victim and fled when a passerby stopped to see what was going on. The perpetrator ran in the direction of Ite Boeremastraat. According to the victim's description, the perpetrator is a "handsome man" between the ages of 30 and 35 years with lightly tanned skin. He has a normal posture, is about 1.8 meters tall and has short black hair. He was dressed in dark clothes and a thin dark jacket with a zipper.
The police are urgently looking to make contact with anyone who may have noticed something suspicious in the area of Helmerspantsoen on July 31st or recognizes the man from the composite sketch and description. They would like to talk to any women who may have been approached by this man. The police also want to know whether the victim's jewelry, pictured below, has been offered for sale anywhere. The Public Prosecutor in Amsterdam has offered a reword of 8,500 for the tip that leads to the perpetrator's arrest.
