Man caught at Schiphol owing €158k

The Koninklijke Marechaussee, Royal Military Police, arrested a 43 year old man on Schiphol Airport for an outstanding fine of nearly 158 thousand euros, the Marechaussee announced on Facebook on Monday. The man was checked by a member of the Marechaussee shortly after arriving at the airport. The check revealed that the man had been fined 157,972.50 euros, which he has not paid yet As the man is unable to pay the amount, he has to spend 540 days in prison. He will still have to pay the fine after serving his sentence, according to the Marechaussee.
