Warm days on the way as summer approaches

Temperatures are expected to rise to tropical heights in the Netherlands this week. From Wednesday the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute expects maximum temperatures above 30 degrees. On Monday and Tuesday maximum temperature of up to 25 degrees can be expected. The rest of the week will be even hotter. On Saturday, when the Tour de France kicks off in Utrecht, the maximum temperature is expected to rise to up to 35 degrees. These high temperatures may mean that the National Heat Plan - which contains additional measures that can be taken to reduce health risks to vulnerable groups - may take effect, the Gelderlander reports. The plan takes effect if temperatures above 27 degrees are expected for 4 days in a row. "A warning for the heat plan has already gone out. It is expected that it will be enforced next week", a spokesperson for the RIVM, the institute that enforces the plan, told the newspaper on Sunday.
