Ajax blocks Cillessen transfer to Man U; "Not even for €25 million"
Amsterdam Eredivisie football club AFC Ajax is not willing to let their goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen go, according to the Telegraaf. "He is not for sale. No, not even for 25 million euros," the director of football affairs at Ajax, Marc Overmars told the Telegraaf when asked about Cillessen's transfer rumours.
Goalkeeper Cillessen himself has shown interest towards Manchester United, even though there has been no concrete offers on the table.
"If there was interest, that would be fantastic, because the goalkeeper coach Frans Hoek is there and Louis van Gaal from the Dutch national team," Cillessen said.
Despite the negative answer from Overmars, Ajax acknowledges it is good to keep scouting for good goalkeepers. While holding on to Cillessen, the amounts offered for the goalkeeper are getting higher, he gets an indication of what a top salary can be and then the departure might be inevitable.
The Ajax goalkeeper signed a contract with the team in 2011, which keeps him in Amsterdam until the mid 2018, according to NU.
Manchester United purchased Daley Blind from Ajax last season and found an agreement with PSV for their attacker Memphis Depay in recent weeks.
The current first goalkeeper for Manchester United, David De Gea, might be joining Christiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. United is desperately trying to keep De Gea in Manchester, but the goalkeeper has said to make his decision once the season is finished. He was also selected the player of the year in Manchester United on Tuesday.
