Four kids home alone rescued from Enschede fire
Fire raged through an apartment building at Ootmarsumbrink in Enschede on Thursday, destroying a family home and sending at least six people to the hospital for check-ups.
It concerns four children who were in the house when the blaze started and two neighbors who rescued them. All were doing well, according to reports. According to Hart van Nederland all four children were under the age of ten; they were home alone when the fire broke out. The neighbors also rescued a dog.
It remains unknown for now what ignited the fire.
As the flames devoured the home, loud bangs were heard coming from inside, that blew out several windows. Bystanders at first thought it were natural gas thanks that had exploded, but it turned out that the bangs were from exploding spray paint cans.
The Fire Department had advised neighbors to close their windows as the fire was causing heavy smoke, but that advisory has now been lifted. The blaze has been extinguished, leaving the building with a gaping wound where the family home was a few hours before the fire broke out.
