Wagamama workers "very scared" after armed robbery, police say

Only one suspect (42) was arrested in the armed robbery at Wagamama restaurant on the Max Euweplein in Amsterdam this morning. The robbery affected the restaurant's employees greatly and they are "very scared", according to police spokesperson Marjolein Koek. The police received a report stating that an armed robbery was in progress at the restaurant around 08:00 this morning. Police officers rushed to the scene and arrested the 42 year old suspect. A SWAT team was sent in to search the property. "In the end there was only one robber", Marjolein told NL Times. "It was unclear until we checked the entire restaurant." The suspect the police arrested was armed. The police would not comment on what type of weapon the suspect was carrying, as they are concerned that it could interfere with the ongoing investigation. The suspect is in custody and will be questioned this afternoon. The restaurant was not open yet when the robbery occurred, but two employees were present in the building, preparing for the day's business. When asked about the well-being of the Wagamama employees, Koek said: "They are not very well. Very scared. Fortunately, they were not hurt." She added that mental health counseling will be made available to them.
