Underage hockey locker-room recordings could net four years prison

The Public Prosecutor in the Hague announced on Monday the decision to appeal the sentence a Noord-Holland court imposed on a 46-year old man for secretly taping girls and women in field hockey locker rooms. The 1.5-year sentence, with eight months suspended, is viewed as too low, particularly as the man was recording girls under 18 years of age. The prosecutor states the suspect had 101,688 images of underaged girls in his possession, and that those images should be categorized as child pornography. The defendant claimed he did not produce child pornography himself, an argument the prosecutor rejects. A further 2.5 years was called for, bringing the total sentence potentially up to four years, with one year conditionally suspended. The prosecution will not appeal against the sentencing of two other suspects in the case.
