Amsterdam electric car use on the rise

Electric vehicle usage nearly doubled in 2014 compared to the previous year, the city of Amsterdam revealed Monday. During the preceding five-year period, the city has expanded the installation of electric charging points on the street, and twenty million kilometers have been driven in electric cars.  While the number of electric charging points in Amsterdam is already 1,100, the city is committed to increase the number up to 4,000 points by 2018 and advance development of electric transportation. Despite the future goals, Amsterdam already has the highest density of charging points in the world. Amsterdam is aiming to reduce traffic pollution as much as possible by the year 2025. Public transportation will be replaced with electric transportation and since 2014 taxis from Schiphol Airport to the city are electric. Together with the public transport authority (GVB) Amsterdam is working on making all public buses entirely pollution-free by the year 2026.
