A third of Dutch willing to help sick neighbors

More than a third of Dutch people are willing to care for a neighbor if he/she is sick. More than 80 percent are willing to help with household tasks. This is evident from research done by Stichting Buurtlink and research bureau Panelwizard Direct. The most helpful neighbors live in the province of Gelderland. As many as 90 percent of the people in Gelderland are willing to help their neighbors. This percentage is much lower in Noord-Brabant. One in six of the Noord-Brabant residents indicated that they are themselves in need of care and are therefore unable or unwilling to offer help. The Stichting Buurtlink wants to encourage aid between neighbors. On their site, www.buurtlink.nl, visitors can place a request for help or respond to a request. The use of the site is free.
