Online threats against Parliament lead to arrest
Police in Amsterdam arrested a 20-year-old man after he threatened members of the Dutch parliament on Facebook. The threats were made in a discussion thread on the social network site about the shootings at the offices of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris, police say in a statement.
The man’s identity and his home address in Amsterdam Nieuw-West were discovered once police and prosecutors launched an investigation.
“The man has since made a partial confession in which he acknowledged that placing the message was misguided,” police say. “He will be further interrogated today.”
It is not clear who was threatened, nor what was allegedly said by the suspect.
