Antilles should follow rules or lose passports: MPs

The VVD and SP believe that if Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten are so dissatisfied with the Netherlands' involvement, it may be better if the kingdom is transformed into a commonwealth. This will mean that Antilles lose their Dutch passports. The king will be allowed to keep his passport. With this plan, the two parties hope to bring the discussion over the Antilles to a point. An initiative note from Parliament Members André Bosman (VVD) and Ronald van Raak (SP) will be discussed in the Second Chamber on Monday. Both parties argue that the islands are still making the Netherlands the bad guy and are not addressing problems with corruption and finances. If they do not want the interference of the Netherlands through the National Council of Ministers, it might be better if they sand on their own, says the duo.
