All Schiphol taxis now electric cars

In a press release the City of Amsterdam announced that starting today all taxi services departing from Schiphol Airport will be taken over by taxi organizations BIOS-groep and BBF SchipholTaxi. 168 fully electric taxis will be introduced - an environmental success for Amsterdam, the taxi industry and the airport. According to the press release, an estimated 85 percent of taxis departing from Schiphol are destined for Amsterdam. More than 1,600 taxis arrive in the city from the airport every day. "By introducing the electric taxi services, the airport and taxi organisations are making a significant contribution to improving air quality in Amsterdam and raising awareness of electric transport." the press release reads. The average taxi operating on diesel produces almost the same amount of emissions as 35 private cars. With this new contract BBF SchipholTaxi and BIOS-groep can demonstrate that the large scale use of electric taxis is a viable option. The City of Amsterdam hopes that more taxi organizations will realize this and opt for electric vehicles in the future.
