Nearly 1000 jobs lost in Ziggo, UPC merger

About 900 jobs will disappear with the merger of cable operators Ziggo and UPC Netherlands in November. This is about 20 percent of the total number of employees. This was announced on NRC Q, the new business website for the publisher. The number of 900 jobs is confirmed by several sources within the companies. Ziggo is being acquired by Liberty Global, which already owns UPC. The European Commission approved the acquisition earlier this month. The layoffs will initially be at the expense of contractors. The merger will also be felt on the help desks.
