Fish processor in 2012 salmonella cases still cause concern

Minister of Health Edith Schippers said to the Second Chamber that Foppen fish processors, who was involved in an international salmonella outbreak from contaminated salmon in 2012, still has not got their business in order two years later. Foppen in Hardwijk has been under close supervision of the Dutch Food and Product Safety Authority (NVWA) since the outbreak, which made more than 1 thousand people sick, killing several of them. Schippers says that inspections in 2014 revealed that the company uses wrong labels of the various locations. During an inspection earlier this month a fungal growth was found over the production lines and condensation above a packing band for shrimp. Foppen received a fine for this. On Thursday the Second Chamber will have a meeting regarding the food scandal at Foppen.
