Food Halls coming to Amsterdam
The old tram depot De Hallen on the Bellamy square in Amsterdam Oud-West will soon be the home of new food courts called Foodhallen, styled after the same concepts in Madrid and London, het Parool reports. The 16,000 square meter complex will have two restaurants, one cinema, a hotel, a library and many shops. The initiative takers tell Misset Horeca that the Hallen have space for around 20 -25 entrepreneurs.
The initiative takers are styling the Foodhallen on, for example, the Borough Market in London and the Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid. These indoor food markets offer stands where food and drinks are sold and consumed on the premises. The idea for this came from four men, also the owners of the two restaurants Meat West and Brasserie Halte 3. Chong Chu (owner of Rotterdam restaurants Sapporo and Shanghai City), Tsibo Lin (Linden Hotel Amsterdam, Hotel van Onna Amsterdam), Zing-Kyn Cheung and Rakish Gangapersad are all well known in the catering business.
