NS scare: train cars spontaneously separated

A passenger train lost its rear car on the Moerdijk bridge in Dordrecht on Monday, which uncoupled due to 'unknown circumstances', Dutch Rail (NS) announces. The automatic brake system kicked in immediately, and the 700 passengers were not in danger, a spokesperson said. The new model double-decker train was on its way to Dordrecht, when the incident occurred at 7.30 a.m. The passengers were asked to wait in the train for half an hour before being evacuated. It is unclear what made the train carriages become uncoupled. Due to the investigation from the Investigation Council for Safety, Inspection Living Environment and Transport and the NS, there were no trains on the Dordrecht - Lange Zwaluwe route. Other trains may also be inspected in the coming time.
