Man beats girlfriend to death

Police in Amsterdam have arrested a 41-year-old man who may have beaten his girlfriend to death Saturday night.

Police say they received reports around 6.45pm about a woman who was unconscious in a house at Transvaalplein. Emergency services rushed over but it was too late; she passed away. “It was obvious she had been severely manhandled,” police say. A few hours later the 41-year-old man, who had meanwhile been earmarked as a suspect, walked into a police station in Amsterdam Oost saying that he and his girlfriend had had an argument that had resulted in a fight. He was arrested.
