Brabant man jailed over threatening Obama email

A man from Bergen op Zoom in Brabant has been arrested for threats he made at US President Obama.

The 45-year-old man apparently made the threat in an email, in which he also mentioned Obama's wife Michelle. Who he sent the email to is not clear. He was arrested at Bruinisse in Schouwen-Duiveland and held in custody till late Tuesday. A spokesperson from the Prosecutor's Office said he did not have to appear in front of a judge.

Obama visited the Netherlands on Monday and Tuesday, to attend the National Security Summit in The Hague. He dashed through Amsterdam on Monday, where he visited Rijks Museum and on Tuesday he held a press conference together with Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

As he continued his Europe tour, he attended an EU/US summit in Brussel on Wednesday and then went on to the Vatican for a meeting with pope Franciscus.
