33 hurt in three tram collision in Rotterdam

33 People were injured in a rear-end collision, involving three trams, on the Breeplein in Rotterdam-Zuid, today. 12 of the injured had to be transported to the hospital with mild to severe injuries, according to a police spokesperson.

The trams involved are the Tram 2 towards 'Groene Tuin', the 20 toward 'Lombardije', and the 25 toward 'Carnisselanden.' Two of the trams had stopped at the Breeplein stop. A number of people were getting ready to exit the rear tram, when a third one crashed into it, resulting in the rear tram hitting the one in front. Most victims were from the middle tram, according to eye witnesses. One of the trams was derailed in the crash. The rear tram sustained most damage. All traffic around the Breeplein is being rerouted, so emergency responders have better access. Many of the victims are treated on the scene. Many complain about back and neck injuries, broken teeth, and cuts and bruises.
