Prison sought for fugitive child rapist

A 41-year old man has been found guilty of raping his underage step-daughter. The sexual abuse has led to a pregnancy and the birth of a son, born in August 2002. Between 1 March 2000 and 31 December 2001, there have been multiple occasions of sexual abuse. The victim was 10 years old when it first happened. The girl's mother filed a report with the police once she found out about the pregnancy. The suspect had already fled to Thailand at this time. The man did not return to the Netherlands until 2012 when he was eventually caught by the police. There was an international warrant for his arrest in place. The Netherlands has no agreements of extradition with Thailand. Crime reporter John van den Heuvel hunted the man down in Thailand. Thai police apprehended him as an illegal, after which Thai authorities made the decision to deport him back to the Netherlands. After his arrest in the Netherlands, a DNA kinship analysis was performed by the Dutch Forensic Institute (NFI). The test confirmed the man to be the child's father. The public prosecutor has demanded five years prison time for the rapist. The court of justice will give a verdict on 4 March.
