Chase ends after cop car crash

A police car and a Volkswagen Golf crashed into each other after a chase last night around 03:00 on the A12. After the collision the Golf took off on the freeway against the direction of traffic.Other motorists were barely able to dodge the ghost rider, according to a spokesperson for the police in The Hague. 'The situation was very dangerous. Oncoming cars were driving 120km per hour at that time.' Dutch Police Car / Wikipedia The police spotted the Golf earlier that evening on the freeway from Gouda to Utrecht, with a broken tail light, and signaled it to stop. When officers attempted to check the license plates on a parking lot along the freeway, the car suddenly took off. Another police car happened to be near the Reeuwijk exit. The driver of the Volkswagen tried to pass the police car on the emergency lane, resulting in the two vehicles colliding at high speed. The driver drove another 300m against traffic toward Gouda. The Volkswagen gave out and the driver and passenger fled on foot. The were apprehended in the nearby industrial area. The police had to use pepper spray to detain the men. The two, a 21-year-old Rotterdam resident and a 20-year-old Waddinxveen resident are still in detention. The police are investigating why the two fled.
