Another police car happened to be near the Reeuwijk exit. The driver of the Volkswagen tried to pass the police car on the emergency lane, resulting in the two vehicles colliding at high speed. The driver drove another 300m against traffic toward Gouda.
The Volkswagen gave out and the driver and passenger fled on foot. The were apprehended in the nearby industrial area. The police had to use pepper spray to detain the men.
The two, a 21-year-old Rotterdam resident and a 20-year-old Waddinxveen resident are still in detention. The police are investigating why the two fled.
