Greenpeace lost contact with activists

Greenpeace has not been able to establish any radio contact with the crew of the Arctic Sunrise, since early Thursday evening. The crew of thirty, of which two Dutchmen, are held captive by the Russian coastguard.A Greenpeace spokesperson reported this on Friday. According to the Russians they boarded the ship because the captain of the Arctic Sunrise refused to stop during a protest by Greenpeace against oil drilling by the Russian gas company Gazprom in Nova Zembla. The Russian authorities stated they are considering suing the activists for piracy, announced the Russian news agency Ria Novosti. The crew may face sentences of up to fifteen years in prison.
