The Dutch police teamed up with technology company The New Web (TNW) to showcase how the police are using technological developments to breathe new life into cold cases, track down suspects faster, and keep the Netherlands safer in general. 

TNW approached the police early this year. "At first sight it seemed to be a strange fit", TNW founder Patrick de Laive said about the collaboration on LinkedIn. "After a few conversations and brainstorms it became clear that the police would actually be a great partner as a great part of police work is transferring to a digital landscape."

Police in the Netherlands produced a new edition of a wall calendar meant to hang in correctional facilities featuring the details of numerous cold cases that have yet to be solved. The first edition, produced in 2017, featured one case per week, and led to 78 tips to help investigators. About 32 of those tips were helpful, and helped police re-open nine cases, authorities announced.

The Dutch police decided to spread their 'cold case calendar' among all 30 thousand detainees in Dutch prisons. An , which contains details about 52 cold cases - one for each week, being spread in five prisons proved to be successful, ANP reports.
